To say that art is my passion is an understatement. I remember being just 6 years old, completely drawn to the beautiful artworks in malls and galleries; I would often look to my dad and say, “I’m going to draw like that one day”––and I did. I knew by age 11 that I was going to devote my life to drawing, painting, and art. Every year, my desire to express parts of my inner self through art became stronger and eventually evolved into a mission to inspire others. Now at 20 years old and largely self-taught, the past 9 years creating artwork has finally led me to the beginning of the journey––an exhilarating place where I am ready to grow some branches and blossom.

I enjoy drawing portraits and painting landscapes in a semi-photorealistic approach. I prefer working in oils, graphite, colored pencil, and charcoal; I have also touched base in watercolor, pastel, sumi-e ink, and digital imaging. Drawing in a realistic style has always appealed to me and it became my niche in the art world. Over the years, my favorite celebrities from Asia were often the subjects of many of my drawings. My oil paintings are inspired by the beauty of my surroundings and other places I long to find, that sometimes only exist in my mind.

When it comes to photography, I am no expert. It's simply a hobby––a gateway––that inspires me to draw and paint even more. I also have hobby-based interests in digital art and designing graphics using the Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium™ software. They are used in conjunction with my overall creative expression, allowing me to investigate new forms of art.

Although I currently attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa as an undergraduate, I believe the highest form of education––what matters most––is the time spent outside the classroom, perfecting your craft. The notion of “starving artist” is a sickness I believe any Artist can avoid or be cured of. An Artist can prosper in wealth and succeed, if she willingly chooses that path, and I have chosen that path.

Suddenly degrees aren't worth anything. Isn't that true? When I was a student, if you had a degree, you had a job. If you didn't have a job it's because you didn't want one. And I didn't want one, frankly. -Sir Ken Robinson

If you are not prepared to be wrong – you will not come up with anything original. People are being educated out of their creative capacity. We do not grow into creativity, we grow out of it. As far as education for children, we need to educate their whole being. Picasso said ” All children are born artists.” How do we remain artists as we grow up? -Sir Ken Robinson

We may not always be able to work at our art on the level that we wish we could, but we can always do something. When we commit ourselves to the process of art and not to the need to produce a saleable product, we begin to experience the joy of creation. -Julia Cameron

Below are a few pictures from my "Portrait Swap" with a very popular and skilled local Artist, Wayne Takazono. We drew each other and then swaped them for each other to keep. It was a great experience.

Here is Wayne Takazono's website. I've admired his artwork since childhood!
